In Honour of JB23 – The Local Troops Walk
There are some things that are worth showing up for.
On Saturday, 22 August 2026, the Prince of Wales Hotel Ipswich will come together with the local community for The Local Troops Walk – an event dedicated to remembering the people we have lost, supporting those who are struggling now and helping create a community where looking out for your mates matters.
It is a chance to walk together, remember together and support together.
And, just as importantly, it is a good excuse to catch up with your mate, put the kettle on later, or simply ask the question that can make a difference: “You OK, mate?”
About The Local Troops Walk
The Local Troops Walk is about community, mateship, remembrance and support.
The walk provides an opportunity for people to come together in honour of those who are no longer with us while showing support for people who may be doing it tough today or in the future.
You don’t have to be a long-distance walker or an athlete to get involved. The important thing is turning up, walking alongside your mates and being part of something that carries an important message.
Whether you come with friends, family, colleagues or simply turn up on your own, everyone is encouraged to get involved and show their support.

Walk Together. Remember Together. Support Together.
The message behind The Local Troops Walk is simple.
Walk Together – Come along with your mates, family and members of the local community to raise awareness and break the stigma around reaching out and talking.
Remember Together – Take a moment to honour and remember the people we have lost.
Support Together – Look out for one another and help create a community where people know they don’t have to face difficult times alone.
Sometimes support starts with something as simple as being there.
Sometimes it starts with asking a mate how they’re really doing.
A Reason to Catch Up With Your Mates
Let’s face it – blokes aren’t always great at making plans to catch up.
There’s always work, footy, family commitments, jobs around the house or another reason to say, “We’ll catch up soon.”
The Local Troops Walk gives you a pretty good reason to actually do it.
Grab your mate. Come down to the walk. Have a chat. Walk together. And while you’re there, ask the question:
“You OK, mate?”
It doesn’t need to be complicated. Checking in, listening and letting someone know you’re there can be an important first step.
Support a Great Cause in Ipswich
Events like The Local Troops Walk are about bringing people together around something bigger than themselves.
By taking part, you’re helping raise awareness, honouring those who have been lost and showing support for people who may be struggling now or in the future.
The event also provides an opportunity for the Ipswich community to stand together and demonstrate the kind of mateship that makes a difference.
Sausage Sizzle, Live Music & Good Company 🎵
After the walk, the Prince of Wales Hotel will be the place to stick around.
There will be a sausage sizzle, live music and an afterparty, giving participants and supporters a chance to relax and catch up after the walk.
It’s not just about the walk itself. It’s about staying connected, sharing a feed, listening to some live music and spending time with the people around you.
Come for the walk. Stay for the company.
Raffle Tickets & Donations
The event will also feature raffle tickets for $5 each, with the raffle drawn on 13 September. Winners will be notified on the day or within three days of the draw.
Donations are also welcome, with the event poster highlighting that donations help support the mission behind The Local Troops Walk.
Every bit of support helps contribute to the message of remembering, supporting and looking out for one another.
Why Events Like This Matter
It can be easy to underestimate the importance of simply bringing people together.
A walk. A conversation. A sausage sizzle. A beer or soft drink after the event. A live band. A mate asking another mate how things are going.
These small moments can create opportunities for people to reconnect and remind each other that they are part of a community.
The Local Troops Walk is an opportunity to do exactly that.
Make a Morning of It at the Prince of Wales Hotel
The Prince of Wales Hotel Ipswich is proud to be the place where the community can come together after The Local Troops Walk.

The POWH is located at 243 Brisbane Street, Ipswich, right in the Ipswich CBD.
Whether you’re participating in the walk, supporting someone who is, or simply want to show your support for the cause, come down and be part of the day.
